We recently took the plunge and moved to Mexico! We’d been hearing so much about the incredible quality of Mexican-made furniture and homewares – these beautiful, handcrafted pieces were starting to gain recognition worldwide. We were thrilled – not only was the craftsmanship exceptional, but incorporating this local touch felt like the perfect way to embrace our new Mexican life and surround ourselves with the vibrant culture.
Finding those pieces we’d envisioned, however, turned out to be a bigger challenge than expected. We were surprised by the difficulty of sourcing high-quality Mexican-made furniture at an accessible price point. Even when we did find something we loved, the remote locations of some makers or the complex buying processes often made it a hurdle. Just managing our lack of Spanish fluency while navigating the processes of multiple manufacturers was incredibly time-consuming and frankly, a little frustrating. We knew there had to be a better way!

Another challenge we found was high prices. When we did finally track down some stunning pieces, the sticker shock nearly knocked us off our feet! We understood the reasoning – high demand, often coupled with the remote location of some makers, naturally affected the cost. However, the reality was that these prices put these incredible pieces out of reach for many people, including ourselves.
In the end, we resorted to buying a few local treasures and filling the rest of our home with furniture from big-box stores. These mass-produced items certainly fit our budget, but this came with a noticeable compromise in quality. In just two years, some pieces are already showing signs of wear and tear. We knew we couldn’t be the only ones facing this dilemma.

As we met with various Manufacturers and Artists, we were consistently impressed by the heart and soul poured into each product. These were family-owned businesses, deeply passionate about quality and fiercely proud of their craft. We witnessed firsthand the disconnect between these amazing artisans and potential customers like us. That’s why we created DecoListo – a marketplace designed to bridge that gap.
